Fish cake recipe


We all love fish cakes no matter what season or occasion. You can have them plain or with a salad, french fries and ketchup or even in a sandwich! Here are some fish cake recipes that are no only simple to make but also yummy!

Fish Cake Recipe

Ingredients: 6 oz any fleshy fish (boiled and flaked) 1/4 cup mayonnaise 1 tsp mustard (ground) 1/4 tsp salt or to taste 1/8 tsp pepper 2 tbsp spring onions 1 1/4 cups soft bread crumbs 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs 1 egg 2 tbsp vegetable oil  Method:


Mix the mayonnaise and egg in a bowl and stir in the rest of the ingredients except the dry bread crumbs and the oil. Shape the mixture into six fish cakes (approx three inches in diameter). Now heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat and coat each fish cake with the dry bread crumbs. Cook them in the oil for around ten minutes, turning once until they are golden brown. Serve hot! You may even substitute the fish with crab meat if you like.

Easy Cod Fish Cakes

Ingredients: 250 gms cod fish (boiled and flaked) 3 potatoes (boiled and mashed) 2-3 eggs (beaten) olive oil or vegetable oil to deep fry salt and pepper to taste

Method: Clean and boil the cod fish for about ten minutes. Remove the skin and bones and flake. Mix the flaked cod, mashed potato, eggs, salt and pepper. Shape into cakes and deep fry in hot oil till golden brown and serve hot!

Spicy Fish Cakes

Ingredients: 1/2 kg any fleshy fish 1 egg (beaten) 3 potatoes (boiled and mashed) 1 tsp red chilly powder or to taste 1/2 tsp pepper powder or to taste 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 2 tbsp lemon juice dry bread crumbs (fine) oil for frying salt to taste

Method: Clean the fish and lightly boil in a little water and salt. Remove the skin and bones and mash it together with the potatoes, turmeric powder, chilly powder, pepper powder, lemon juice and salt to taste. Shape into cakes, dip into the egg and bread crumbs and deep fry in hot oil till golden brown. Serve hot!

Healthy Fish Cakes in a Vegetable Mix  

Ingredients: 500 gms any fleshy fish 3 large onions 2 large potatoes 2 large capsicums 2 large tomatoes 5 flakes garlic 1 inch piece ginger 2 soup cubes mixed in a cup of water vegetable or olive oil Salt and pepper to taste Eggs (beaten to dip cakes in) bread crumbs or semolina (to dip cakes in)

Method: Clean and slice the fish and chop all the vegetables. Take a large pan and heat two tablespoons of oil, place a layer of sliced vegetables, then the fish slices and lastly another layer of vegetables. Add the stock and cook over a low heat till the fish and potatoes are done. Now remove the fish from the liquid and flake removing all the bones and place in a bowl along with the cooked vegetables (drained) and mix adding salt and pepper to taste. Add some of the reserved liquid if the mixture gets too dry, however the consistency should just be right enough to form into cakes so not too wet either. Once you get the desired consistency and shape into little cakes, dip them in the beaten egg and press into bread crumbs or semolina and deep fry or shallow fry till golden brown and serve hot!
